Rudy Giuliani

Role

Trump’s personal attorney; disbarred in NY and DC; $146M defamation verdict

Background

Rudy Giuliani served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1983 to 1989 and as Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. He became Donald Trump’s personal attorney beginning in 2018 and led efforts to pressure Ukrainian officials to announce investigations targeting Joe and Hunter Biden. After the 2020 election, he promoted false claims of widespread fraud at numerous press conferences and in court filings. He was disbarred in New York in July 2024 and in Washington, D.C. in September 2024, with both courts citing his false statements. In December 2023, a federal jury ordered him to pay $148 million to Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss for defamation. Trump issued him a federal pardon in November 2025.
