Background
Peter Kent Navarro served as director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy in Donald Trump’s first administration and was an economic advisor in the second. He was subpoenaed by the January 6 Select Committee and refused to cooperate, claiming executive privilege. He was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress in September 2023 and sentenced to four months in federal prison in January 2024. He was released in July 2024 and subsequently served as an advisor in Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. He returned to a senior role in the Trump administration in 2025.
