Description
U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol (2021-2023)
Background
The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol operated from July 2021 to January 2023. It was a bipartisan committee established by the Democratic-controlled House after the Senate failed to create a bipartisan independent commission. The committee held ten public hearings in 2022, released findings in 11 chapters, and referred Donald Trump to the DOJ on four criminal charges including inciting an insurrection. It also held Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro in contempt of Congress; both were convicted. The committee received testimony from witnesses including Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman about the impact of Trump’s false election fraud claims.
