Georgia election worker; target of Giuliani’s false fraud claims; awarded $146M in defamation suit
Background
Ruby Freeman worked as a Fulton County, Georgia election worker from approximately 2011 to 2022. She and her daughter Shaye Moss were falsely accused by Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, and their allies of manipulating ballots during the November 2020 Georgia presidential election count. Freeman testified before the January 6 Committee in June 2022, describing in detail how the false accusations upended her daily life and caused her to fear for her safety. In December 2023, a federal jury awarded Freeman and Moss $148 million in damages in their defamation suit against Giuliani.
