Background
Sidney Katherine Powell is a Texas-based criminal defense attorney who represented Michael Flynn and briefly joined Donald Trump’s post-election legal team in November 2020. She publicly promoted extensive and false conspiracy theories alleging that Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic had rigged the 2020 election, claims that led to a defamation lawsuit by Dominion for which she ultimately agreed to pay $6 million. She was indicted in the Georgia RICO case in August 2023 and pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor conspiracy charges in October 2023, agreeing to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against other defendants including Donald Trump.
