Vice President 2017-2021; refused Trump’s pressure to reject 2020 electoral votes on January 6; evacuated during Capitol attack
Background
Michael Richard Pence served as the 48th Vice President of the United States from 2017 to 2021, having previously served as Governor of Indiana and as a U.S. Representative. He was a central figure in the January 6, 2021 events after Donald Trump and his allies, including John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, pressured him to reject or delay certification of the 2020 electoral vote. Pence refused and was evacuated as the Capitol was attacked. He later testified to the January 6 Select Committee and cooperated with Jack Smith’s federal investigation.
