Son of President Joe Biden; subject of fabricated FBI allegations by Alexander Smirnov; convicted of federal gun and tax charges in 2024, later pardoned
Background
Robert Hunter Biden is the son of President Joe Biden and a lawyer and businessman. He was the target of fabricated allegations by FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, who falsely claimed both Hunter and Joe Biden had each received $5 million in bribes from Burisma Holdings. Trump and his allies promoted the Burisma narrative extensively from 2020 through 2024. In 2024, Hunter was convicted on separate charges for lying about his drug use on a form to purchase a firearm, and tax evasion. President Biden issued him a broad pardon in December 2024 to protect him from further politically-motivated investigations from the incoming Trump administration.
