contempt of Congress

Failure or refusal to comply with a lawful directive from Congress, including refusing to testify before a congressional committee, ignoring a congressional subpoena, or knowingly providing false testimony. Contempt of Congress is a federal criminal misdemeanor. Congress also has an inherent civil contempt power to enforce its demands through the courts.
