🔴 Abuse of Power ·
Jan 20, 2025
Summary
On his first day back in office in January 2025, Donald Trump issued a blanket pardon for all 1,500+ people charged or convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol attack, including those convicted of violent assaults on police officers and seditious conspiracy. Trump also issued preemptive pardons for 77 associates involved in the fake electors plot, including Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and others who had not yet been charged. Capitol Police officers injured in the attack and the families of officers who died publicly condemned the pardons. Trump described the rioters as “patriots” and characterized the pardons as ending what he called the “weaponization” of federal law enforcement.
