Attorney General (2019-2020); issued controversial summary of Mueller Report
Background
William Barr served as Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush from 1991 to 1993 and again under Donald Trump from February 2019 to December 2020. In March 2019, Barr issued a four-page letter summarizing the Mueller Report’s principal conclusions that Special CounselRobert Mueller subsequently wrote mischaracterized the report’s findings on obstruction. A federal judge later found that Barr had not acted in good faith and had not been candid with the court in related proceedings. In December 2020, Barr publicly stated he had found no evidence of fraud sufficient to change the presidential election outcome, a statement that contributed to his resignation shortly afterward.
