Background
Mike Waltz is an American politician and former Army Special Forces officer who served as National Security Adviser at the start of the second Trump administration and was later confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. A Republican, he represented Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2019 to 2025. In March 2025, while National Security Adviser, Waltz inadvertently added a journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, to a Signal group chat in which senior officials discussed an imminent military strike. He was removed from the post in May 2025 and nominated as UN ambassador.
