Background
Roger Stone is a longtime Republican political operative who has worked in American politics since the Nixon era. He co-founded the lobbying firm Black, Manafort and Stone with Paul Manafort in 1980. Stone served as a Trump advisor and informal intermediary who communicated with persons associated with WikiLeaks during the 2016 campaign and claimed advance knowledge of the timing and content of WikiLeaks releases. He was convicted in November 2019 on seven counts including obstruction of a congressional investigation, witness tampering, and making false statements to Congress. Donald Trump commuted his sentence in July 2020 before he reported to prison and issued him a full pardon in December 2020.
