Summary
The Qatari royal family gifted a Boeing 747-8 luxury jet worth an estimated $400 million, the most valuable gift ever accepted from a foreign government, to be used as Air Force One during Trump’s term and then transferred to his presidential library foundation. Legal experts including former Obama ethics official Norm Eisen said the acceptance violated the Foreign Emoluments Clause, which bars accepting gifts from foreign states without congressional consent. AG Bondi’s DOJ issued a legal opinion blessing the arrangement. Congress was not asked to approve the transfer.
