Supreme Court of the State of New York (trial court)

Description

Supreme Court of the State of New York; the state’s general trial court (not the U.S. Supreme Court), where the Trump civil fraud and Trump Organization cases were tried

Background

The Supreme Court of the State of New York is, despite its name, New York’s general trial court, distinct from the Supreme Court of the United States. Justice Arthur Engoron of this court presided over the civil-fraud case that produced the 2024 judgment against Donald Trump, and a Manhattan branch of the court was the venue for the 2022 criminal trial that convicted the Trump Organization of tax fraud.
