Fox News is an American conservative cable news network launched in 1996 by Rupert Murdoch. It became the most-watched cable news network in the United States and developed close editorial alignment with Donald Trump during and after his first term. In April 2023, Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million, the largest defamation settlement in U.S. media history. Internal communications disclosed in the lawsuit revealed that Fox News hosts and executives privately described Trump’s election fraud claims as false, “ludicrous,” and “insane” while continuing to broadcast and amplify those claims to viewers.
