ICE Shootings of U.S. Citizens

Summary
ICE officer Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Good on January 7, 2026 in Minneapolis. Good had told Ross ‘That’s fine dude. I’m not mad at you’ moments before he fired. On January 24, CBP officers fatally shot Alex Pretti less than two miles away. In at least five shootings during Operation Metro Surge, initial government characterizations were later contradicted by video evidence. DHS acknowledged that two officers ‘appear to have made untruthful statements’ under oath about a separate shooting. The federal government refused to cooperate with state investigators, blocked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension from accessing crime scenes, and declined to share evidence. On March 24, Minnesota, Hennepin County and the BCA sued the DOJ and DHS, alleging they were withholding investigative evidence ‘in order to shield the federal officers involved.’ Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stated: ‘We are prepared to fight for transparency and accountability that the federal government is desperate to avoid.‘
