JD Vance is an American politician and author serving as Vice President of the United States in the second Trump administration. A Republican, he was a venture capitalist and the author of the memoir Hillbilly Elegy before winning a U.S. Senate seat from Ohio in 2022 and being chosen as Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024. As vice president, Vance was among the senior officials in the 2025 Signal group chat in which military strike details were shared, and in 2026 he and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz announced the withholding of $1.3 billion in Medicaid reimbursements from California.
