Background
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is the local prosecutor for Fulton County, Georgia, which includes most of Atlanta. Under District Attorney Fani Willis, it obtained a 2023 indictment charging Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants under Georgia’s RICO statute with a coordinated effort to overturn the state’s 2020 election result, a case in which several defendants pleaded guilty and Trump became the first U.S. president to be booked and photographed in a mugshot.
