Aug 23, 2024
Summary
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his independent presidential campaign and endorsed Trump, strategically withdrawing his name from approximately 10 battleground state ballots, including Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Florida, stating his ‘internal polls showed his presence would hurt Trump.’ By removing his name from ballots in battleground states and leaving his name on the ballot in other states, he selectively made changes to ballots in an effort to improve Trump’s chances of winning. He also actively encouraged supporters in safely partisan states to vote for him while urging swing-state supporters to back Trump . Kennedy was ultimately unable to withdraw from Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Carolina due to deadlines that had passed. He was subsequently nominated and confirmed as Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services despite his history of vaccine misinformation.
