Summary

Trump signed executive orders targeting at least seven prominent law firms, including Perkins Coie, Covington & Burling, Jenner & Block, and WilmerHale, revoking security clearances and threatening government contracts solely because the firms had represented his political opponents or the prosecutors who charged him. Federal judges permanently struck down orders against Perkins Coie (May 2), Jenner & Block, and WilmerHale as unconstitutional First Amendment retaliation. Judge Beryl Howell called it ‘an unprecedented attack’: ‘No American President has ever before issued executive orders like (this).’
