Elon Musk Campaign Spending
🟤 Election Tampering ·
Aug–Nov 2024
Summary
Elon Musk spent at least $291.5 million supporting Trump’s 2024 election, the largest single donor in the cycle, channeled primarily through America PAC for voter turnout in swing states. Musk hosted a two-hour live Trump interview on X (August 2024), expressly advocating for Trump’s election using company resources. An FEC complaint by End Citizens United alleged an illegal in-kind corporate contribution; the FEC dismissed the complaint in May 2025 on the grounds that the interview was distributed online instead of broadcast, cable, or satellite, and X didn’t pay to host the interview on any platform aside from X. Critics noted the value of X’s platform, including algorithmically amplified pro-Trump content and the reinstatement of Trump’s previously banned account, constituted support beyond declared limits. Musk was subsequently appointed to lead DOGE.
